How do you access your out-of-network benefits?
Many health insurance benefit plans include coverage of services from ‘out-of-network’ providers. It is the responsibility of the Client, as the insurance plan member, to contact their insurance carrier and confirm services from ‘out-of-network’ providers are covered and included in their insurance plan benefits package. Clients who wish to seek reimbursement for any portion of the costs of these services from their health insurance plans are encouraged to request a ‘Superbill’ or billing statement.

Contact your insurance provider for information to check your coverage, by asking these suggested questions:
- What are my mental health benefits?
- What is my deductible and has it been met?
- How many sessions per calendar your does my plan cover?
- How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
- What is the usual and customary amount for a LMFT in the San Francisco Bay Area?
- Must I obtain a referral or prior approval from my primary care provider?
